Do you remember playing chess on computer? It is always a joyful experience to successfully defeat the computer! But did you know that the computers can learn how to play the game better from practicing against itself millions of times. AlphaGo is one such example.
The definition of Artificial intelligence says that it leverages computers and machines to mimic the problem-solving and decision-making capabilities of the human mind. No wonder why it is quoted that “Computers are smarter than human brains”. From long, tedious calculations to searching anything from across the world, everything can be done in just a matter of few seconds. So, it isn’t wrong to say that human beings are dependent on artificial intelligence to make their lives easier. Let’s check in what ways humans can’t keep their hands to themselves from AI in their day-to-day life-
AI in agriculture-
India is an agriculture-based country. More than half of population has its livelihood dependent on Agriculture. A study says that the agricultural production must be doubled by the year 2050 to feed the population. The question now is, can AI help us with this dilemma in near future? The answer is yes!
A company by the name of Blue River Technology has developed a robot called See & Spray which helps to monitor and precisely spray weedicide on cotton plants. This can help to control resistance against herbicides and for better growth of the plant. Such an application can be useful to some extent in the agricultural sector.
AI in marketing-
Marketing is another name for sugar coating a product so that it can be sold easily. But did you know that AI also serves a helping hand in marketing? Back in the days, people had to look for their desired product in the market after spending hours of time. In today’s world, AI allows us to access these products in a jiffy. Amazon is one such example that applies AI to understand their customers’ search queries and the reason why they are looking for a particular product. Amazon believes in knowing the intent of the search to provide the customer with better options and shopping experience. This also takes into consideration the correlation between the query and the products displayed. Hasn’t AI made it much simpler for us to shop online?
AI in social media-
Today’s generation can’t keep themselves from social media platforms. AI has stepped in to make this even more fun for us! Sometimes we come across posts that say, “based on what you liked” or “might be useful”. One such application is used on Instagram to customize content on the explore page.
AI in fashion:
Gen Z kids and good fashion are inseparable from each other. Choosing the right outfit, that suits your personality and the occasion you are wearing it to is very important. AI helps in apparel designing, where data is collected to understand the needs of a customer and design apparels based on his/her favorite color, texture, material, and size. Alibaba, launched their first FashionAI store which has features such as smart garment tags, intelligent mirrors, along with Bluetooth chips embedded within every product. "Face It" is a mobile application that uses computer vision to acquire data about a user’s facial structure as well as machine learning to determine the user’s face shape. This information is then combined with manually inputted information to give the user a personalized set of hair and beard styles that are guaranteed to make the user look his best. A personalized list of tips are also generated for the user to take into account when getting a haircut. Hence, its AI can be your go to buddy whether it comes to looking cool or moving along with the trend.
AI in education:
Education is a necessity of every individual in the world. Sadly, not everyone has access to it easily, and there is lack of teachers in many places. What if they are replaced by virtual teachers?
'Cortana' by Windows, 'Siri' by Apple and ‘Alexa' by Amazon. These are voice recognition systems that can imitate human intelligence. These systems not only help us to gain knowledge but also to enhance our decision-making ability. Not to mention, tracking students’ performance, previous grades, and his/her participation will make a teacher's job easier and will also help student to understand where he lacking. We all agree upon the fact that everyone has different paces of learning and variable grasping power. AI systems can adapt to individual student learning and grasping abilities. It can also find out his/her strengths and weaknesses. The idea is to develop a software that creates individual lesson plans for students based on their performance. Remote Proctoring is a new technology that can help to simplify the exam invigilation process. Students can appear for exam from any location classroom/home, and this technology has proved itself to be beneficial especially during the pandemic.
Conclusion:
The more we try to dive deep into the world of AI, the more it amazes us. It has become a part of our life and it will keep growing in the near future. Who would have thought that even machine can think, predict, and conclude on its own? As much as we rely on AI, it is important to realize we must not be entirely dependent on it. We must still make our own decisions wherever necessary. No amount of technology can ever replace a human brain completely (as of now).
And as technology progresses, AI will keep surprising us, making human life easier and making this world a better place.
